March 18 - Travel to Mbarara, equator

From my journal: This morning was so sad! We had to leave. We got up at 6 and got ready to leave. It was so sad having to leave them. I got really close to Phoebe and Mama Sarah over the last couple days and I almost cried when I left. It was sad leaving Jinja. Bro Kim says we are gonna stay there on Sunday night again. Which is awesome. Cuz then we get to see our amazing people again. We got to the church at like 7:30. The boys all got Uganda Cranes jerseys. I want one. I am gonna get Sam to buy me one maybe because he can get better prices cuz he’s African. We pretty much just sat around for 2 hours and then at 9:30 we finally hit the road. We drove till Kampala and then stopped at a mall to use the washroom. When we were almost at the mall, we got stuck in a traffic jam. The peddlers here sell the weirdest things! Like one guy had a tape measure, a dartboard and some other random stuff like that. At the mall, Joe and Elie bought knives. Pretty cool ones at that! When we were at the mall, it started raining. There are no storm sewers here though so all the water just collects in the road so we were driving through big red puddles. Everyone fell asleep after we left Kampala until we ran into a giant hailstorm. It was like golfball sized hailstones!!! Really cool!!! We stopped at the equator to take pictures. It was pretty neat. You know how they say that water flows the other way on the other side of the equator? Ya it is true. On the northern side of the equator, it flows clockwise, on the southern side it flows counterclockwise, and right on the equator it doesn’t turn at all. It was really neat!!! It was a long drive. We quickly stopped at our hotel when we got into Mbarara and then went to give the money to the widow. Then we went back to our hotel, had dinner, and then went for a walk. Sharon and I sat in the restaurant until like 11. That would be because of the wifi there…. Lol.
