March 16 - Jinja Youth Service

From my journal: Today we got up at like 6:30 or 7. We got up, had breakfast and then made matoka. Which was pretty cool. They peel the banana when it is still green. Service was at 9:30. However, Bro Fred forgot about us and went to work. So a different brother had to come pick us up. We didn’t get to the church till after 10. In the morning, Beth, Ryan and Oren gave testimonies and the Jonathan preached. It was really good. I had never heard Oren actually speak before. He did really good. Ryan was super nervous. Jonathan did good too. After church, we visited and met people and then Sis Sarah brought us lunch. In the evening, Dad preached about respect. After he preached, the young people got up and they gave us gifts. All us girls got little coin purse things, the boys got keychains, and Dad and Bro Kim got hats. Then we took lots of pictures with everybody. There was a little boy named Benjamin and his dad died last year from AIDS and he and his mom are HIV positive. It is really sad. He is such a sweet boy! Then we went for dinner at Sis Rose’s. Those boys were so spoilt!! Like sis Rose would wash their clothes every day, they would have so much food, they had the best place out of everyone!! Except their bathroom was just a hole in the ground, out back. The food there was really good. When dad was leaving, he decided to give me a hug and pulled a muscle in my back or something. It hurts. We went to sleep like as soon as we got home.
