From my journal: Today we got up like 20 minutes before
breakfast. Then we did laundry. I did my laundry and the other girls did the
boys’ laundry. Which is kinda awkward if you ask me….. In the morning service,
I almost passed out. It was so hot and we stood for like an hour and I was
sitting right front and center and so I didn’t feel that I could just go
outside or something. For lunch we went to Bro James’ house. When we got there,
I asked a brother where the bathroom was and he tole me it was around the edge
of the house. So Sis Heddy and I went out and in the middle of a field of cows
and goats, there was a little shack. It was pretty much a typical Ugandan
bathroom. Like just a hole in the ground and stuff. So we went and did our
business and then when we got inside the house, the brother was like “So the
latrine is just at the end of this hall.” And lo and behold, a civilized
bathroom! They said we were very brave to use the one in the field. After the
evening service, there was a drunk guy hanging around. He was claiming to be a
pastor. He shook Dad’s hand and then he laid down at his feet. Then he was
washing one of the cars with his shirt. Then Jonathan was shooing him away.
When we got back to the hotel, we went to the market for dinner. There were
guys there that said they were police and they were trying to get our info.
Like where we were staying and then they wanted to verify our passports… So we
told them that we needed ID and that anyone can say they are cops. We got Elie
to run back to the hotel to get Dad and Dad told him that he was the leader of
the group and they would have to go through him. He said that because if he got
arrested or something, it would be better than Bro Kim getting arrested
logistically. We then got the hotel manager to verify who the guys were. They
apparently are like the equivalent to the CIA. So they checked our passports
because we are so close to Congo and there is unrest between Congo and Uganda so
they check all the foreigners out. After that, I went and layed on Dad’s bed
and vented to him while he folded his laundry. I am really homesick… The weird
thing is, I’m not homesick for my bed, my family, Canadian food, or anything
like that. Its for peace and quiet. I love my friends and everything but I am
tired of all the noise and constantly being with people. I can’t wait to get
home and be alone. It will be great!! I don’t really like always being with
people.
